Introduction to mindfulness - 7.5 Hours of Management & Professional CPD
Research has shown that mindfulness training is most effective when it is practiced consistently over a period of time. It makes perfect sense really. It’s like going to the gym only once and expecting to suddenly be fitter! This six week course (1 hour per week) gives lawyers a chance to incorporate mindfulness into their lives and really experience the benefits. We will teach you a range of mindfulness practices which will help to bring a deep sense of clarity and focus into your life. Numbers participating on the course are limited to allow for a more personal experience and to facilitate a safe and supportive environment.
The course is tailored to the specifics of legal practice. We will discuss the many challenges of practicing law and develop ways to integrate our mindfulness practice in our daily lives. The course is highly interactive and experiential. Lawyers will have an opportunity to try simple mindfulness practices and experience the benefits first hand.
Over the six weeks we will pay particular attention to stress - Is stress always a bad thing? What are the typical stress triggers for lawyers? What happens when we experience chronic stress? And how can mindfulness help us to respond more effectively to stress in our lives?
Cultivating Resilience – 7.5 Hours of Management & Professional CPD
This is a follow-on course for solicitors who have completed the 6 week introductory programme and have a basic understanding of mindfulness. In this course participants will deepen the practice of mindfulness and will also learn a variety of formal and informal practices which have been shown to increase emotional resilience and well-being as well as reduce stress and anxiety.
Many of us have a tendency towards being quite self-critical. Research shows that self-criticism actually makes us weaker in the face of failure, more emotional, and less likely to assimilate lessons from our failures. In this course there is an emphasis on recognising any such tendencies and cultivating more helpful ways of relating to our experience.
Practicing over a six week period gives participants a chance to incorporate the skills and practices into their lives and observe the benefits for themselves.
